What is RF microneedling?
RF microneedling combines tiny microneedles with radiofrequency (RF) energy. The needles create micro-channels in the skin while RF energy heats the deeper layers, stimulating your body's natural production of collagen and elastin to improve texture, firmness and tone over time.
What is the difference between EXION and traditional microneedling?
Traditional microneedling relies on tiny punctures alone to trigger the skin's healing response. EXION Fractional RF adds radiofrequency energy delivered through the needles, with real-time temperature monitoring, so heat reaches deeper layers of the skin in a controlled way. This supports more collagen remodeling than microneedling alone.
Can RF microneedling tighten loose skin?
RF microneedling can help improve mild to moderate skin laxity by stimulating new collagen and elastin. It isn't a replacement for surgery when there is significant excess skin. During your consultation, we'll let you know whether EXION is a good fit for your goals or whether another option may serve you better.
Can RF microneedling help stretch marks?
RF microneedling may help soften the appearance of stretch marks by remodeling the skin and improving texture. Results vary depending on the age and color of the stretch marks, and a series of treatments is typically recommended.
Can RF microneedling improve acne scars?
Yes. Acne scarring is one of the most common reasons patients choose RF microneedling. Treatment can help smooth the appearance of many types of acne scars by stimulating collagen beneath the scarred skin, with improvement building gradually over a series of sessions.
Can EXION be used on the body?

Can RF microneedling help loose skin after weight loss?
It can help. RF microneedling and EXION Body can improve the firmness and texture of mild to moderately loose skin after weight loss. Because Scale Down also specializes in medical weight loss, we can time your skin treatments around where you are in your journey. Significant excess skin may require a surgical consultation.
What areas of the body can be treated with EXION?
On the face, common areas include the cheeks, forehead, jawline and neck. On the body, common areas include the abdomen, arms, thighs, buttocks, flanks and bra line, along with other areas with lax skin, scarring or stretch marks. Your provider will confirm which areas and treatments fit your goals.
How many EXION treatments will I need?
It depends on your concerns, the treatment area and your goals. Many patients benefit from a series of treatments, often three to four sessions spaced about a month apart. Your provider will recommend a personalized plan during your consultation.
Is there downtime after RF microneedling?
Most patients return to normal activities the next day after RF microneedling. Temporary redness, mild swelling or a sunburn-like feeling are common for a day or two. Needle-free EXION Face and EXION Body treatments typically involve no downtime. We'll review aftercare instructions with you before your treatment.
Does RF microneedling hurt?
Most patients describe RF microneedling as a warm, prickling sensation. A topical numbing cream is typically applied beforehand to help keep you comfortable. EXION Face and EXION Body treatments usually feel like a gentle, comfortable warmth.
When will I see results from EXION?
Some patients notice improvement within a few weeks, but results develop gradually as your skin produces new collagen. Full results typically appear about three months after your final treatment.
